A double doubleheader highlights the seven game NBA slate on Sunday, March 17. After splitting the first two games the Phoenix Suns conclude a four-game road trip at Milwaukee in the first of ABC’s two games at 1 p.m. ET. The Suns lost at Boston on Thursday night, their second double-digit setback to the NBA’s best team in less than a week. They also failed to get the cash in both games and are just 1-7 against the NBA betting line in their past eight games. The Bucks returned home following a 1-3 road trip and vanquished Philadelphia 114-105 to move into second place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Bucks covered the 7-point line but they are just 15-16-1 as a NBA pick against the spread at home.

The Dallas Mavericks could be without superstar Luka Doncic when they host the defending champion Nuggets in the second game of ABC’s doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. ET. Doncic exited the win over Golden State and missed Thursday’s 126-119 loss to Oklahoma City. The Mavs are hoping to reach the top six in the Western Conference but will be hard pressed to do so without the services of the NBA’s leading scorer. The Brooklyn Nets are within striking distance of the top 10 in the East and they take on the West-worst San Antonio Spurs in the first of two games on NBA TV. The Nets are the least profitable road team in the NBA going 11-20 against the NBA betting line. The night ends with the LA Clippers hosting Atlanta at 9:30 p.m. ET. Once again I came close to hitting a three-team NBA parlay only to fall short when Orlando lost to Indiana. It seemed like a favorable bet since the Magic have the highest cover rate in the NBA at 65.2 percent, but they were my only failed NBA pick falling 111-97 as a 1-point favorite on the NBA betting line. In the end it didn’t matter that I hit my other two picks with New Orleans and the LA Lakers covering in their matchups. It seems like I’m getting closer to a winning ticket but time is running out with only about four weeks remaining in the regular season.

With Doncic on the shelf the Mavs clearly aren’t the same team. Luka went off recently recording six straight 30-point triple-doubles and had a seventh but scored just 27 points against Chicago on Monday. Basketball is a team game but if Doncic misses time with a sore hammy the Nuggets have a big advantage. And the champs are playing at a high level with Wednesday’s win over Miami their fourth straight and 10th in 11 games. They also went 8-3 as a NBA pick against the spread in those games.

Brooklyn is on the cusp of reaching the top 10 trailing the Hawks by only 3.5 games and facing the worst team in the West gives them an opportunity to close the gap. The San Antonio Spurs are catching the Nets in the second of a back-to-back and it’s the final game of a six-game road trip so don’t be surprised if the Nets aren’t all geeked up for this encounter. We’ve seen the Spurs play a little better since before the All-Star break and they have Victor Wembamyana so backing the home team on the NBA betting line is a smart play.

My winning NBA parlay will come to be thanks to the LA Clippers, who host Atlanta in the last game of the day. The Clips have been in the dumps recently but broke a two-game slide with a 126-111 win over the Bulls on Thursday covering the NBA point spread for jus their fifth payout in 16 games. They averted disaster when Kawhi Leonard returned after missing one game with a back injury and they look like a solid NBA pick against the Hawks, who have covered the NBA point spread in just 11 of 31 road contests this season.
