January 27, 2025Texas at Mississippi Same Game Parlay Recap
The college basketball same game parlay for Wednesday, January 29 took us to the SEC for a matchup between Texas and No. 23 Mississippi. The Longhorns had a nice debut in their new conference during football season and while they haven’t been as successful on the hardwood they have been competitive. The Horns opened their conference slate against three top 20 teams losing to then No. 1 Tennessee and No. 2 Auburn by a combined nine points. They were 4-1-1 against the college basketball betting line in their previous six games ahead of this contest.
It turned out to be another close one with Ole Miss snapping a three-game losing streak, though the Rebels failed to cover the 6.5-point spread at Caesars sportsbook in their 72-69 win. Making plays down the stretch was the deciding factor. Davon Barnes hit a pair of clutch free throws in the closing seconds and the Rebels defense prevented Texas leading scorer Tre Johnson from scoring the potential game-tying or go-ahead basket twice in the last 10 seconds. We lost the same game parlay by backing Ole Miss minus the points and they never had a chance since the margin was never more than five points in the second half.

Both teams were below 40 percent shooting from the field, which was a good thing if you backed the UNDER on the basketball odds. The clubs played below the total by a half-point proving the oddsmakers have a good grasp of things. Leading scorer Sean Pedulla had 19 points hitting 4 of 7 three-pointers, which was more than the rest of the team combined. The Rebels shot 29.7 percent from the floor and were 7 of 21 from distance. The Horns couldn’t take advantage of the cold shooting due to a difficult time of their own. UT also shot 39.7 percent and made two fewer three-point baskets.
Johnson nearly got Texas the upset. He scored 22 points but was just 2 of 8 from behind the arc and couldn’t deliver in crunch time. It also didn’t help that Ole Miss had 11 more free throw attempts and outscored Texas by seven from the stripe for the game. It was the fourth straight game in which Texas cashed the UNDER.

The SEC is always mentioned as the top college football conference in America and now we can say it’s one of the best in college basketball. Entering the week every team in the 16-team league was at .500 or better with three programs nationally ranked among the top 5. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and the Mississippi Rebels aren’t dead yet after losing their last three games. They look to end that slide when hosting the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday. Ole Miss dropped those three games to ranked foes by a total of 12 points. The Rebel have been a good bet at Caesars sportsbook going 12-5 against the college basketball betting line in their last 17 games.

The Horns used a 22-point comeback against Texas AM in their last game to extend their winning streak to two and win for the third time in four games, 70-69. They also got a little bit of revenge over their rival, who handed Texas a 20-point loss a few weeks ago to start a three-game slide. The skid also included home losses to then No. 2 Auburn, 87-82, and then No. 1 Tennessee, 74-70. UT was good enough to earn a payout in those games but came up just a little short on the scoreboard. They pushed the 1-point line against the Aggies but have been a good bet in their last 11 games going 7-3-1 ATS.
It looked like another disappointing outing for the Longhorns, who lost their first five games against ranked opponents. However, that streak ended with an upset of Missouri on Jan. 21 and the epic rally gave the Horns consecutive wins against ranked foes. The Horns boast an efficient offense averaging nearly 79 points while shooting 48.2 percent from the field. Tre Johnson leads the attack averaging 18.8 points and shooting better than 45 percent from the floor.
Johnson had one of his worst shooting games of the season yet the Horns still beat Mizzou, 61-53, last week. He was just 1 of 8 from distance and 3 of 15 overall for 12 points. Arthur Kaluma picked up the slack scoring 14 points and the Horns were stingy defensively holding the Tigers to 31 percent shooting overall and 4 of 22 on three-point attempts. However, Kaluma missed the last game due to injury and the status for the team’s leading rebounder and second leading scorer is unclear.
They were one of the several SEC team nationally ranked until a current three-game losing streak likely has them out of the top 25 when the most recent rankings come out. Heck, the Rebels have more losses in the last week than they had during the first three months of the season when they won 15 of their first 17 games. Don’t think Ole Miss suddenly sucks after their recent woes. Their competition was among the best in the SEC with their three setbacks to Mississippi State, Texas AM and Missouri by a total of 12 points.
Though they’ve dropped two in a row SU and ATS the Rebels are still a good bet. They have one of the best cover rates in college basketball with payouts in 65 percent of their games and they finally get a game against a team that isn’t ranked. Their previous four games were against top 25 clubs with the run starting with a victory at then No. 4 Alabama.
The Rebels are best when they defend and they didn’t do that allowing more than 80 points twice during their current slide. They give up an average of 66.4 points and hold opponents to 30 percent three-point shooting. They lack the firepower to hang in shootouts with four of their five setbacks coming when teams scored at least 80 points. They’ve been good containing opponents at home which is why backing the Rebels and the UNDER in our college basketball same game parlay makes sense.
