Weekend College Basketball Picks
February 17, 2022College Basketball Futures Picks
February 17, 2022The rematch diehard Big 12 college basketball bettors circled has arrived! Chris Beard gets a chance to exact revenge for an emotional loss to his former team when his No. 20 ranked Texas Longhorns welcome the No. 11 Texas Tech Red Raiders into the Frank Erwin Center for the second and final regular season skirmish between the hated rivals. Each team is currently in the midst of a tear with Terrence Shannon Jr. and his mates coming out winners in five of six, while Timmy Allen and co. have scored wins in six of their last eight to pull to within shouting distance of the conference frontrunners. SugarHouse Sportsbook will have all point spreads, totals, moneylines, and prop bets for this pivotal conference clash set to go early Saturday afternoon. Tech has dominated the in-state rivalry of late having taken eight of the last 10 with the over cashing in six times. I’m not buying points hitting the board this time around!
Betting Odds Analysis
The Red Raiders have been a cash cow under Mark Adams’ watch. After fighting back to beat Baylor by 10 on Hump Day night, Texas Tech invades Austin with a gorgeous 18-8 overall record against the spread. However, the team hasn’t experienced as much success away from Lubbock with it just 2-5 SU but 4-3 ATS last having their two-game cover streak snapped in Oklahoma last weekend. The under has cashed in all but one of their six played Big 12 road games. Since dropping a pair of embarrassing decisions to Iowa State and K-State, Texas has gone on to win six of its last eight games (4-4 ATS) after scoring the 80-78 OT win over the Sooners in Norman on Tuesday night. Even with the over cashing four of the last five times the team took to the hardwood, the under is still 14-12 in their 26 played games. It’s called negative regression peeps!
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Very impressive. Very, very impressive! I’m referring to the Red Raiders comeback win against the Baylor on Wednesday night with Patrick Mahomes in attendance. After failing to get into a rhythm over the game’s first 20 minutes, Tech came out like gangbusters for the final 20 and dropped 51 on the Bears to log the 83-73 runaway victory. They took full advantage of Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua’s absence and outboarded them by 10 with 13 of the offensive variety. With Kevin McCullar and his 10.8 PPG sidelined, the offense got huge contributions from Adonis Arms (15) and Kevin Obanor (23) who hit a number of huge 3’s to allow for Tech to snag some separation on the scoreboard early in the second half.
Texas Longhorns
The Horns put a ton into the comeback win at home against the Kansas Jayhawks. It didn’t leave much in the tank for Baylor a game later, and it showed after getting smacked 80-63 and shooting 33 percent from the field. It retook the court earlier in the week in Norman and handed the Sooners yet another tough to stomach defeat after pulling out the 80-78 outright win in overtime as one possession underdogs. Andrew Jones led the way outside with 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from long range, while Timmy Allen did it from all over also sharing the team-lead in scoring with 20. The Longhorns would shoot 49 percent from the floor and only turn the ball over eight times. They’ll return home looking to improve upon their 15-1 SU record.
The Wagers
These squads collided back on February 1 in a game that saw Texas Tech rise to the occasion and take it to their traitor coach. They waxed the Horns right from the opening tip outscoring them 43-29 through the first 20 minutes before coasting to the 77-64 win and cover as 4-point favorites. The triumph was their eighth in the last 10 meetings, while the cover was their sixth in the last eight. The 141 points destroyed the 122.5-point closing total with ease to halt a two-game win streak for the under. I’m expecting more of a rock fight in the second go-round. Tech’s win saw 70 possessions which is a bit on the high side. With Texas back on its home floor, I expect the rematch to play to a crawl. Tech has been a much different team away from its arena, and Texas was embarrassed the first time around. Take first half and full game positions on the under with confidence.
