Two of the top players in the world have pulled out of this week’s The American Express in California, as Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele will not play. That has made it a crapshoot as to who will end up as the favorite for this week’s event. Sungjae Im and Justin Thomas are two of the players who are near the top of the PGA odds board at Caesars for this event. There could be a lot of value in golf odds for this event, as longshots have done well in the past, including last year when amateur Nick Dunlap won the tournament. It was a 1-3 week with the matchups last week at the Sony Open. Let’s look at this week’s American Express matchup picks and also pick another group winner.

I am coming right back to what I did the last couple of weeks with the group pick but this time looking at one of the international groups. It is the top player from the South American group. I will go with Nico Echavarria at odds of +150. There is a lot to like about Echavarria right now, as he is playing outstanding golf with three top finishes in his last six starts, including the playoff loss last week.
