January 28, 2025Thunder at Warriors Same Game Parlay Recap
Having lost seven of 12 games heading into their matchup with Western Conference leading Oklahoma City on Wednesday, January 29, and playing the second game of a back to back, the Golden State Warriors had a monstrous task ahead of them. The Dubs were the biggest underdog they’ve been all season catching 9-points on the closing line at PROLINE+. And the Thunder had won three in a row in the Bay Area and seven of their last nine overall making them a seemingly good pick against the NBA betting line as part of our NBA same game parlay.
There are no sure things when wagering on sporting events and the Warriors proved that by handing OKC a rare loss behind hot shooting from Andrew Wiggins. Scoring a team-high 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting overall, Wiggins also dropped five of Golden State’s 13 three-pointers as the club shot 49 percent from the field and overcame an early 14-point deficit to get the outright cover. More impressive is that the Warriors didn’t have to rely on Stephen Curry, who still finished with 21 points making 5 of 10 triples.

OKC took a 34-20 lead after 12 minutes with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 21 of his 52 points in the opening frame. After sitting out the previous game to rest his creaky knees, Curry showed some rust missing his first five shots before scoring his first basket early in the second quarter. He made six of his last 10 shots as the Warriors methodically chipped away at the deficit taking the lead for good with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter on a Curry three-pointer. Kevon Looney (18), Gary Payton II (15) and Brandon Podziemski (11) also scored in double figures shooting 70 percent between them.
The Thunder wasted another glorious outing from SGA, the NBA’s leading scorer. He played more than 39 minutes hitting 16 of 29 field goals and 18 of 21 free throws. He didn’t get much help from his mates, though. Collectively the rest of the team shot just over 34 percent from the field. Both teams shot well from the stripe allowing them to cash the OVER on the total of 224.5. They combined to make more than 81 percent of their freebies.

A recent slump by the Cavaliers opened the door for the Oklahoma City Thunder to take over the top spot in the NBA and they did with three wins in their last four games. OKC has a comfortable lead in the Western Conference with the Golden State Warriors battling with 10 other teams for one of the final postseason spots. The Dubs can make a statement with a win over the Association’s best when the clubs meet for the third and final time this season in the second of ESPN’s Wednesday doubleheader. Golden State was one of the few teams to beat the Thunder, doing so back in November as part of a 12-3 start to the season. The Warriors have slumped since while OKC has emerged as the NBA champion favorite at Caesars sportsbook.

It’s hard to be as consistently good as the Thunder have been. Over the course of a long season teams experience slumps and injuries that have an impact. OKC has experienced the latter as they continue to play without Chet Holmgren and could be without Luguentz Dort, who missed Sunday’s win over Portland. Still, the Thunder have won games at an alarming rate and boast the NBA’s best record at 37-9 following their game with the Trail Blazers. OKC has lost two in a row just once, that taking place in mid-November, and they are 26-4 since that mild slump.
Behind 35 points from MVP contender Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder beat the Blazers, 118-108, on Sunday. OKC has been so good this year that NBA betting lines have increased. They were favored by at least 11.5-points in each of their last four games failing to cover twice and losing outright in their last three games. However, OKC remains one of the top draws at the betting window with the fourth best cover rate in the league earning payouts nearly 63 percent of the time. And in a lot of ways they resemble the championship teams of Golden State from several seasons ago with deadly efficiency on both ends of the floor.
Gilgeous-Alexander leads the NBA averaging 32.1 points, but he’s just part of the equation. Jalen Williams averages 21.0 points and five other players score more than 9.0 points per outing. They average 116.6 points shooting better than 47 percent from the field. Their offensive rating of 117.1 is sixth best in the NBA. Much of the team’s success can be attributed to defense. OKC is the most efficient team on end of the floor with a rating of 104.8 leading the NBA in several defensive stat categories.
As the Warriors deal with injuries and an evolving roster they’re also dropping in the West standings. With three losses in their last four games they’ve fallen outside the top 10, but they are currently only four games behind the Clippers for sixth in the standings. While the Thunder have a comfortable advantage at the top of the conference the rest of the teams will be scrambling likely until the end of the regular season.
A 118-108 home loss to the Lakers on Saturday dropped the Dubs to 12-12 at Chase Center. Owners of the best home court advantage during their championship years, the Warriors are just trying to keep their heads above water at this point. They were a 1-point home dog to the Lakers and dropped to 10-14 as a NBA pick vs. the spread at home.
When the teams met back in early November, the Warriors were enjoying a hot start to the season. They won 12 of their first 15 games, including a 127-116 win in OKC. Stephen Curry scored 36 points in that outing hitting 7 of 13 three-pointers. Draymond Green had eight points and 11 assists in that game and Jonathan Kuminga added 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Those two have been out of the lineup for several games and aren’t expected to play on Wednesday leaving the Warriors shorthanded against the best team in the league.
