Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl – Memphis Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Same Game Parlay
December 12, 2024Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions
December 13, 2024The forever underachieving Toronto Maple Leafs are currently sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division, two points behind the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. Toronto has been great at home this season, but the Maple Leafs have been marginal on the road with a 5-5-2 record in 12 games. That’s something that needs to change if they ever want to erase their postseason woes as Toronto has won just one playoff series in 20 years. The Maple Leafs have made the postseason for each of the last eight years, but they only managed to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games in 2023 before losing in five games to the Florida Panthers the following round.
Detroit is in sixth place in the Atlantic Division as of Thursday morning. The Red Wings are 5-7-2 at home, and they have the third-worst goal differential in the Eastern Conference. This has been the worst-performing offense in the East, but the Red Wings were able to score five goals against the Buffalo Sabres earlier this week. Their offense will need to perform better than it did when these teams met in Canada back on November 8. Detroit found the back of the net just once in a 3-1 loss to the Maple Leafs, and that was on the power play with Dylan Larkin notching the goal. John Tavares notched two goals for Toronto in the win, while Mitch Marner added the third score.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Same Game Parlay:
Toronto is 17-9-2 as of Thursday morning. The Maple Leafs have done most of their damage at home, but they have won two of their last three road games. Surprisingly, the offense hasn’t been the reason behind their success this season despite having stars like Tavares, Marner, and Auston Matthews.
Instead, the defense has been the reason behind Toronto’s solid start. The Maple Leafs rank fourth in goals against, allowing just 72 goals in 28 games. Anthony Stolarz has been the top goaltender, registering a 2.13 GAA (3rd in the NHL) and a .928 save percentage (1st in the NHL), but Joseph Woll has been nearly as good. Woll is allowing just 2.21 GAA (4th in the NHL) and has a .919 save percentage (6th in the NHL).
The Maple Leafs don’t have too many injuries to worry about early on in the season. Defensemen Jani Hakanpaa and Jake McCabe are on injured reserve, but center Bobby McCann should return for IR shortly.
Detroit started the season with Ville Husso in net, but the Finnish goaltender was pulled in the Red Wings’ home opener after allowing four goals in 25 minutes. That led to veteran Cam Talbot taking over, and he has been decent in net for Detroit. Talbot is 6-5-2 with a 2.73 GAA and a .915 save percentage. As for Husso, he is once again the backup goaltender despite his struggles between the pipes given Alex Lyon is injured. Husso is 0-4-2 with a 3.74 GAA and an .870 save percentage.
There are three main offensive weapons for the Red Wings. Lucas Raymond leads the team with 30 points, and 12 of his 19 assists have come off the power play. We have seen similar power play success for Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin with DeBrincat tallying six of his 12 goals and five of his 11 assists on the power play, and Larkin tallying six of his 12 goals and three of his 11 assists on the man advantage.
Only one other Detroit player has more than four goals, and no one besides those three skaters has more than 15 points this season. Patrick Kane is nowhere near the threat he was last decade with the Chicago Blackhawks, and that’s part of why the Red Wings have only scored 72 goals in 28 games. That ranks 29th out of 32 games even though the Red Wings have played the easiest schedule of any team through the first third of the season.
The Maple Leafs have won 11 of the last 15 games between these Original Six clubs, so they are the play even though this game is in the Motor City. The stolid Toronto defense paired with the toothless Detroit attack should lead to this game going Under the total too.
