Last Tuesday’s MLB Best Bets ended up 1-2 to take home a small loss at BetRivers Sportsbook. The night started off with a care free winner on the F5 under in the pitching matchup between Josiah Gray and Jesus Luzardo with only two runs hitting the board. The decision to bypass both bullpens proved to be a wise one with six combined runs tallied in the eighth and ninth innings. We would then drop out next two positions on Seattle and St. Louis with the former falling 9-4 at Boston and the latter dropping a 3-2 outcome to Milwaukee. Texas Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
The Rangers continue to be one of the most dangerous offenses in the league for opposing left-handed pitchers to square off against. We most recently backed them hard against the Rockies’ Kyle Freeland who entered Saturday’s start in unbelievably fine form. Corey Seager and co. ended up chewing him up and spitting him out after only 2.0 innings with eight runs on the board once he departed. I’m expecting more of the same in the second game of this series with the offense set to stare back at Rich Hill.
While Pittsburgh’s veteran has been extremely serviceable through nine made starts in going 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA, his 4.62 FIP lets it be known that the negative regression monster is hiding in the weeds. Surprisingly, he’s been much better on the road (2.31 ERA) than at PNC Park where his ERA balloons to 5.25 and opponent’s batting average to .307. Provided all of Texas’ mainstays are in the lineup, this is one of my favorite same game parlays of the season!
SAME GAME MLB PARLAY: RANGERS OVER TEAM TOTAL + HILL UNDER PITCHING OUTS
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds
I’m expecting a plethora of runs in the second game of this extended four-gamer series between the NL Central rival Cardinals and Reds. Adam Wainwright is quite the specimen with the soon to be 42-year old still taking the bump every fifth day. That being said, the veteran hasn’t been very good through his first three starts of the 2023 MLB betting season in allowing 20 hits (2 HR) and 10 ER through 15.2 combined innings of work. He was also wretched in a pair of GAB starts last season evidenced by a 9.58 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, and .325 BAA.
I still expect Cincy to hang a crooked number even though its roster has been decimated by the injury bug. Maybe Graham Ashcraft should fake an injury or something as bad it’s recently been for the right-hander. Though he checks in 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA and 36:21 K/BB ratio for the season, it’s been ugly with a capital U of late. Over the last 15 days which includes three starts, the righty has allowed 22 hits (3 HR) and 18 ER with a 9:5 K/BB ratio and allowed the opposition to bat .373 against him. The Redbirds offense is red hot and should once again get theirs!
SAME GAME MLB PARLAY: FULL GAME OVER + CARDINALS OVER TEAM TOTAL + REDS OVER TEAM TOTAL
San Francisco Giants vs. Minnesota Twins
I’m expecting a good ‘ol fashioned pitcher’s duel to play out in this one with Sonny Gray taking to his home bump looking to improve upon his 4-0 record and 1.64 ERA. Yet to concede a single home run through 49.1 total innings of work, everything the veteran right-hander has done to this point looks to be legit with his FIP clocking in at a career-low 2.01. Making matters even worse for the visiting Giants is the fact that he’s been at his best in the comforts of Target Field where he’s allowed 19 hits and 3 ER through just over 30 innings of work.
Alex Cobb has been masterful to this point of the season pitching to a 3-1 record and 1.94 ERA. His 3.16 FIP rates out as one of the best in baseball! The kicker for me here is that the Giants have come out on top in three of his four road starts against the Yankees, Marlins, Padres (L), and Diamondbacks. Coming off his shortest stint of the season, I expect the veteran to bring his “A” game to the yard on Monday night and put his squad in a position to cash in as an inflated road dog with runs tough to come by for both squads.
