U.S. Open Matchup Picks
June 14, 2023NFC West Odds – All-In on the Seattle Seahawks
June 14, 2023It is U.S. Open week on the PGA Tour and that means a multitude a props on the board at online sportsbooks. Whenever a major takes place there is more interest from the general public and sportsbooks put out a plethora of props to choose from. You’ll see things like a hole-in-one, will there be a playoff, winning score, etc., etc. This year’s U.S. Open takes place in Los Angeles on what should be a good test for the top players. Scottie Scheffler is listed as the golf betting favorite at BetRivers. He is ranked No. 1 in the world and is hitting the ball better than anyone on the PGA Tour right now. Let’s look at some of the U.S. Open props available and some U.S. Open prop picks.
Will There be a Hole-in-One?
Yes -174
No +142
There are five par 3’s at the Los Angeles Country Club and one of those holes is really short. This number on the Yes is really high, as the Yes is nearly a 2-1 favorite. I haven’t seen a number that high on a major in a long, long time on the hole-in-one prop, but it tells you that oddsmakers expect there will be at least one hole-in-one in this year’s U.S. Open.
Playoff
Yes +400
No -750
There has not been a playoff in the U.S. Open since 2008, so perhaps we are due. There is no doubt that the PGA Tour is more competitive than ever, but is +400 enough for you to take the Yes?
Leading Score after Round 1 to be -4 or Better
Yes -220
It seems that in the first round of a major we always see someone go low. This year’s number is -4, so that means we need to see someone shoot 66 or better. I think there is a very good chance that happens, so I will lay the price and take the Yes at -220.
Winning Score to be -6 or Better
Yes -195
In five of the last six U.S. Open’s the winning score has been at least -6 or better. I think we’ll see at least -6 win this event. Los Angeles Country Club is a tough course, but it is not brutal and the weather is supposed to be excellent. I would be surprised if the winner doesn’t shoot at least -10-under par and we only have to get to -6 to win this bet. I’ll take the Yes at -195.
Scottie Scheffler to Finish in the Top 10 (Including Ties)
Yes -145
I am a big fan of Scheffler and there is no question he is playing better than anyone in the world right now. I would be shocked if he doesn’t finish in the Top 10 and we get a short price of -145. Count me in on the Yes.
Big Guns vs. The Field
The Field -330
Big Guns +240
This prop is available at FanDuel and it is always an interesting one. The Big Guns in this prop are Scheffler, McIlroy, Rahm and Koepka. One of those four has to win the U.S. Open if you take the Big Guns. The Field is actually a pretty good-sized favorite at -330. I would have to go with the Big Guns in this prop if I played it, but I am not thrilled at all with the price of just +240.
Top Spanish Player
Jon Rahm -250
Sergio Garcia +550
Pablo Larrazabal +750
David Puig +1200
Alejandro Del Rey +1800
You can find a lot of props on player nationality and in this case it is the Spanish prop with Rahm listed as a big favorite. I don’t like laying big numbers that often, but I just can’t see anyone challenging Rahm on this list. Sergio would be the obvious choice but he hasn’t played well this year. I guess if Rahm totally collapses then maybe Larrazabal has a chance, but it is really unlikely. Rahm is one of the best players in the world and a clear standout over everyone else in this prop. I will lay the price and take Rahm in this U.S. Open prop.
