January 19, 2023NFL Divisional Round Player Prop Bets
January 20, 2023The first UFC PPV event of the year will take place in the Southern Hemisphere as MMA-mad Brazil will finally get to host a promotion once more. Due to COVID-19, there hasn’t been a UFC event in Brazil in almost three years, so the promotion is returning with a bang as UFC 283 will feature two title fights involving hometown legends. Fan favorite Glover Teixeira will look to win back the UFC Light Heavyweight title when he takes on Jamahal Hill in the main event, and Deiveson Figueiredo will look to hold on to his UFC Flyweight Championship when he faces Brandon Moreno in the co-main event. Interestingly, although both fighters will have the crowd at their backs, they are both underdogs per the most current UFC betting odds at BetRivers Sportsbook
UFC 283: Teixeira vs. Hill will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The main card will start at 10 p.m. ET, and the prelims will get underway at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN.
UFC 283: Teixeira vs. Hill Betting Odds at BetRivers Sportsbook
Glover Teixeira +112
Jamahal Hill -137
It took a long time for Glover Teixeira to finally rise to the top of the light heavyweight division. Teixeira has long been a fan favorite and a gatekeeper in this weight class, so there was a lot of celebrating when he submitted Jan Blachowicz in the second round of UFC 267 back in October 2021. Unfortunately, his title reign was short lived as he was subsequently submitted by Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 in June 2022. However, Prochazka had to give up the title after he hurt his right shoulder in November.
Meanwhile, Jamahal Hill is riding high after a loss to Paul Craig 19 months ago. Hill has bounced back from that defeat with first-round knockouts of Jimmy Crute and Johnny Walker to win Performance of the Night bonuses, and he earned a Fight of the Night bonus for scoring a fourth-round TKO of Thiago Santos back in August.
Teixeira has a major experience edge over Hill as his opponent has only 13 professional MMA fights to his name. However, Hill is two inches taller than Teixeira and has a three-inch reach advantage. That will play a big factor in the favorite by the MMA betting line winning a decision here.
Deiveson Figueiredo -107
Brandon Moreno -117
This will be the fourth fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno. The score is knotted up at 1-1-1 as the first bout resulted in a draw due to an illegal groin strike by Figueiredo on Moreno. We saw Moreno win the rematch with a third-round submission of Figueiredo, but then Figueiredo won a unanimous decision at UFC 270 last January.
Unsurprisingly, this bout is seen as a relative toss-up by the oddsmakers. Moreno has the youth advantage though at the age of 29, while Figueiredo is 35 years old. Additionally, Moreno has a two-inch height edge and a two-inch reach advantage on Figueiredo.
Despite those edges, the better bet is on Figueiredo. He knows this is an important fight for his legacy, and he has a lot to prove in front of his home crowd. It’s going to be close, but look for him to gut out a win.
Gilbert Burns -530
Neil Magny +380
There is a Brazilian in every fight on the main card, so with Teixeira and Figueiredo listed as slight underdogs per the MMA betting odds, the UFC wants to make sure to give the home crowd something to cheer. Johnny Walker and Jessica Andrade are both expected to pick up victories for Brazil, but Gilbert Burns has the opportunity to put on a show. Burns is one of the top welterweights in the UFC, and he is out to prove something after his loss to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273. He is an extremely well-rounded fighter with six wins by knockout, six wins by decision, and eight wins by submission, and that does not bode well for Neil Magny. We haven’t seen Magny defeat a big name opponent since he won a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum over seven years ago, and he should be no match for Burns.
