UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak Odds and Picks

A lot of the big boys will be in action this week for UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak. In the main event, No. 7 heavyweight Derrick Lewis will face No. 12 heavyweight Sergei Spivak, and the main card will also feature No. 10 Marcin Tybura taking on No. 15 Blagoy Ivanov. Additionally, the co-main event will pit light heavyweights Devin Clark and Jung Da-un against one another, so we should see some serious knockout power.

UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Spivak will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the UFC Apex facility in Enterprise, Nevada. Originally, this promotion was supposed to take place in Seoul, South Korea, but the UFC’s return to Seoul was pushed back a little longer. The preliminary fights will start at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+, while the main card is slated to have a late 1 a.m. ET start on ESPN+.

Although Derrick Lewis is a better heavyweight according to the UFC Rankings, he is a moderate underdog per the UFC betting odds against Sergei Spivak in the main event. Lewis challenged for the UFC Heavyweight Championship twice in the last five years, but he was submitted by Daniel Cormier and knocked out by Ciryl Gane. He was knocked out by Tai Tuivasa and Sergei Pavlovich in his two most recent fights, and there is a question of how much he has left in the tank since he will turn 38 next week.

That’s why many bettors are gravitating toward the younger Sergei Spivak in this heavyweight showdown. Spivak is 10 years younger than Lewis, and he has won five of his last six fights. He submitted Tuivasa a few years ago, and he scored an impressive second round TKO of Augusto Sakai last August. Lewis has a one-inch reach advantage, but Spivak figures to have significantly more stamina in this fight.

Jung Da-un lost two of his first three professional fights. However, he kept training and improving, allowing him to win his next 10 bouts in order to earn a UFC contract. Jung finished his first two opponents before settling for a split decision draw with Sam Alvey. He won his next two bouts, but he was knocked out in the first round by Dustin Jacoby last summer in what was his first loss in almost seven years.

Previously, there was real excitement over Devin Clark due to his performances on The Ultimate Fighter. However, he has been a marginal pro in the UFC, essentially trading wins and losses during his time in the promotion. Clark has lost his last three bouts at light heavyweight, so there isn’t a lot of faith in him by the UFC betting line here. Additionally, he is at a major size disadvantage as Jung is four inches taller and has a longer reach by 3.5 inches.

Former M1 Heavyweight Championship title holder Marcin Tybura has never challenged for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Tybura lost to guys like Fabricio Werdum and Lewis in their prime, and a stretch where he lost four of five fights pretty much established his role as a gatekeeper in the division. Tybura turned 37 two months ago, but he has won six of his last seven fights and won Performance of the Night bonuses for his knockouts of Greg Hardy and Walt Harris. He also has an impressive win over Spivak to his credit recently, so there’s a lot to like about him as a slight favorite by the MMA betting odds.

Blagoy Ivanov is only a year younger than Tybura, so age shouldn’t be much of a factor in this fight. Ivanov defeated Tuivasa in his most impressive victory to date, but that was his only win over a big name opponent. His last seven fights have all been decided by the judges, so it’s going to be hard to back him to win here. Tybura is four inches taller than Ivanov and has a five-inch reach advantage, making him the choice at this price.
