UFC Fight Night Preview
Saturday night’s fight pits two top 10 ranked middleweights against one another with each looking to climb into elite status. Jack “The Joker” Hermansson is currently viewed as the UFC’s No. 6 ranked fighter while Sean Strickland sits just behind at No. 7.
Hermansson picked up a win last May versus Edmen Shahbyzyan to improve his overall record to 22-6-0. That includes a 9-4-0 mark in UFC fight. He’s won half of those decisions by way of knockout. “The Joker” is a fantastic grappler that could look to get this fight to the mat quickly.
Strickland, on the other hand, will look to keep the fight vertical where he can use his superb boxing skills to land a win. He’s won each of his last five fights to move his overall record to 24-3-0 with 10 of his wins coming via the knockout. He boasts an 11-3-0 mark in UFC action.
Strickland has won four bouts over the last year and a half and will look to keep that success in the octagon going versus the more highly ranked Hermansson.
Will Hermansson succeed in forcing Strickland into submission or will the technical boxer knock “The Joker” to the mat? We should be in for a treat Saturday night.
Who is favored in UFC Fight Night?
While Hermansson is ranked higher in the UFC standings, it’s Strickland that enters the matchup as the UFC betting favorite. He enters the matchup on a long winning streak and currently boasts -230 odds to win the bout on Saturday night.
The latest UFC odds list Hermansson as the underdog with a +185 line at SugarHouse. If you believe that “The Joker” can pull the upset, there is value. A $100 wager would yield a $185 profit should Hermansson land the win.
Other bets to watch involve the length of the fight, as well as the method of decision.
Based on the current lines, oddsmakers believe this one could go the distance. Both fighters hold higher odds of winning by decision as opposed to by finish (TKO, submission, etc.). Strickland boasts +185 odds of winning by decision while Hermansson’s odds come in at +450.
If you do think the win will come via knockout or submission, you could earn a serious payout. Oddsmakers have taken into account the fighting styles of each contender. The grappler, Hermansson, has better odds of winning by submission (+550), while the boxer, Strickland, has a better chance to win by knockout (+215).
Length of the fight also seems to lean towards a longer match. SugarHouse lists -106 odds of the bout going the distance. The over/under, at the moment, sits at 4.5 rounds according to the site.
Strickland’s fights have gone the distance in three of his last four bouts. The same is true for Hermansson in each of his last two fights.
UFC Fight Night Prediction
We’re backing the favorite, here, to continue building upon his current five-game winning streak. Look for Strickland to successfully defend against Hermansson’s attempts to get the fight to the ground. He’ll be able to stay on his feet and turn this into a boxing match.
