UFC Fight Night Preview
This meeting of light heavyweight strikers could present viewers with an aggressive, power packed night of action.
Jamahal Hill enters the matchup as the rising star looking to extend his current winning streak to two. He rebounded nicely from a brutal loss against Paul Craig that left him with a dislocated elbow to get back in the win column against Jimmy Crute.
Hill dominated Crute to push his overall fighting record to 8-1-0 (3-1-0 in UFC). That mark doesn’t include a knockout win over Klidson Abreu which was ruled a ‘no contest’ due to Hill’s marijuana use.
“Sweet Dreams” is hoping that a win on Saturday night will boost him into the top 10 of the national rankings.
Walker, on the other hand, already holds top 10 status. He enters the matchup with an 18-6 overall record, which includes a 4-3 mark in UFC fights.
He burst onto the scene with heavy hitting power, landing knockouts in each of his first three wins.
Despite the high standing, Walker has been struggling of late. The boxer has lost three of his last four contests, including a unanimous decision to Thiago Santos last time out. Another loss could be detrimental to the 29-year old’s rank.
Both of these fighters bring an aggressive style of play to the ring. Hill boasts a pair of knockouts in his three UFC wins. The southpaw would’ve had one more had it not been for the overturned ruling in his fight versus Abreu.
Walker gained notoriety for his aggressiveness in early knockout victories. Each of his four wins have come via KO. For some reason, though, he fought more passively in his latest loss to Santos. It will be interesting to see if he returns to the style that landed him a top 10 ranking.
Who is favored in UFC Fight Night?
Jamahal Hill enters this matchup as the UFC betting favorite while the higher seeded Johnny Walker is the underdog. “Sweet Dream” boasts -278 odds to win the fight at SugarHouse, while Walker holds +210 odds of walking away with a victory.
If you believe that Walker can end his current losing skid at land a victory, there’s value in taking the underdog. A $100 bet could bring in $210 in profits, but it’s probably best to stick with the favorite in this fight.
There some interesting trends to follow with this fight in addition to picking the winner.
The length of this fight could be short, as both look to end bouts with their explosive punching power. As mentioned before, these two have combined for six knockouts in their last seven winning decisions.
Hill’s only loss also came by way of knockout, while Walker has been KO’d three times in his fighting career. All in all, 11 of Walker’s last 14 fights have ended in the first round.
Look for this one to end early.
UFC Fight Night Prediction
Hill seems to be the more polished fighter of late and that will show on Saturday. The southpaw will look to land a knockout blow early to a susceptible Walker.
Despite the higher world ranking, Walker’s recent performance has been subpar, which isn’t a good sign when heading into the ring with the brawling Hill.
Hill’s last fight ended in just 48 seconds. We should see another quick decision this weekend.
UFC Fight Night Pick: Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill (-278)
