UFC Fight Night Preview
Two of UFC’s best strikers are set to battle it out on Saturday night as Rob Fant and Jose Aldo duke it out in the main event. Font has earned his recent reputation as one of the sport’s best, posting a 19-4 overall record in UFC fights. Eight of those victories have come via knockout and he currently finds himself on a four-fight winning streak.
With the recent success, Font has earned a top five world ranking in the Bantamweight division. His last time out, the fighter took down former Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. He’s also been landed Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night bonuses for wins over Ricky Simon and Marlon Moraes.
While Font is deadly with his boxing abilities, he’s not quite as good on the mat. That one-dimensional approach could spell trouble when facing Aldo, who previously competed in the Jiu Jitsu World Championship before making the move to mixed martial arts.
Speaking of Aldo, the 35-year-old is the fifth-ranked fighter in the Bantamweight division. He’s posted a 30-7 career record with 17 of those wins coming by way of the knockout. He, too, is a great boxer but he appears to have an advantage over Font in other areas like grappling and defense.
These two fighters boast similar profiles with Font holding a one-inch advantage in both height and reach. Which one will stand out on Saturday and leave Las Vegas with a win?
Who is favored to win UFC Fight Night?
Rob Font enters as the fighting favorite according to most sportsbooks. He holds -148 odds at SugarHouse’s online book as of the time of this posting. Aldo is considered to be the underdog with +125 odds.
While Font has been on an absolute tear over these last few fights, it appears as though bettors are backing the more proven Aldo. Font opened as an even greater favorite, seeing odds as high as -185 earlier in the week. Since, Aldo has seen his line shift from +145 down to where it currently stands.
That trend is something to keep an eye on moving forward. It could be wise to jump on Aldo before his odds decrease any further.
UFC Fight Night Prediction
This one has a good chance of going the distance. Each of these fighters has avoided a knockout in four of their last five contests, a trend we expect to continue on Saturday.
With that being the case, expect Aldo to outlast Font and land a huge upset victory. He should be able to play solid defense and avoid any huge blows that Font has to offer. Aldo presents a more complete fighting arsenal and he should be able to beat Font down in a variety of different ways.
Simply put, Aldo is the better all-around fighter. He’ll be able to counter any of Font’s boxing combinations while earning his fair share of points on the scorecard.
We believe that the wrong person is favored in this fight. Back Aldo with confidence on Saturday night.
