Parlays Dominate Louisiana Sportsbook Betting
May 23, 2024A Favorite, Underdog, and Longshot to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award
May 24, 2024The Birmingham Stallions took another step towards immortality by beating Houston, 35-28, last week improving to 8-0. They locked up a playoff spot a while ago and have nothing to play for except that perfect record. The Stallions look to stay unbeaten with a road contest in Week 9 against the San Antonio Brahmas. In fact all four away teams in the penultimate weekend of the United Football League regular season were positioned as favorites on the opening UFL betting line with Birmingham (-8.5) laying the most points at Caesars sportsbook.
Handicapping a new league is hard enough and it didn’t get easier as the season progressed. The scoring rules, roster changes and multiple quarterbacks used by several clubs make things more difficult. Throw in a week where teams have little to play for and it becomes a major challenge. The four-team UFL playoff has been decided with St. Louis playing San Antonio in the XFL Conference and Birmingham taking on Michigan in the USFL Conference. The best race will be between three teams looking to avoid the worst record in the league. Arlington, Memphis and Houston each have one win and they’re all home underdogs catching at least a field goal. The Renegades open the UFL betting week at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday against the St. Louis Battlehawks catching 3.5-points.

Week 9 UFL Parlay Picks
I mentioned how difficult it is handicapping UFL games because I had a rough last week. For the first time this season I failed to win at least one bet on my UFL picks and parlay. And I think it’s time to give up on Arlington. One week after notching their first win of the season in a game I backed them, the Renegades pissed down their leg in a 20-15 loss to San Antonio, failing to stay within the UFL point spread of 2.5. I backed the Panthers laying 8.5-points in their 24-18 win over Memphis. All four UFL betting favorites won outright in Week 8, but Michigan was one of three winning teams to lose against the UFL point spread. Even though A.J. McCarron was sidelined, the Battlehawks cashed the OVER on the UFL odds for the fifth time in six games beating DC 26-21. Of course I backed the UNDER with one of the league’s QBs on the shelf.
St. Louis / Arlington OVER 46
San Antonio Brahmas +8.5
Michigan / Houston UNDER 40

Despite their lackluster effort last week the Renegades boast one of the top offenses in the UFL led by passing leader Luis Perez, who has thrown for 1,835 yards and 12 TDs. I’m not sure what the status is for McCarron in Week 9 after missing the previous game with an ankle injury, but St. Louis got a boost from Manny Wilkins, who accounted for 205 total yards in a 26-21 win over the DC Defenders. Arlington has the potential to be more like the squad that scored 47 points in its Week 7 win over Memphis and the Renegades tallied 24 points in their Week 2 matchup with STL when the teams cashed the OVER on the UFL odds.
After playing two of their closest games this season in the last two weeks, the Stallions might be slowing down. They beat St. Louis 30-26 in Week 7 and slipped past Houston 35-28 last week as a 16-point UFL betting line favorite. Subconsciously we could see Birmingham let up even more looking to avoid injuries with the playoffs on the horizon. And the Brahmas defense will likely be an obstacle which has me leaning toward San Antonio and the 8.5-points as a UFL best bet at Caesars sportsbook.
The Michigan Panthers take a four-game winning streak into Sunday’s tilt with Houston using a strong ground game and stifling defense. They’ve needed to be good in those areas since neither Brian Lewerke nor Bryce Perkins has seized the QB job. And the run game took a potential hit with the loss of Wes Hills to an injury last week. Houston exploded for a season-high 28 points in Week 7, but it’s the only time they scored more than 20 points in a game this season. I’m not convinced the club has turned it around after averaging less than 10 points in the previous three contests.
