June 30, 2023The Pittsburgh Maulers reaching the 2023 USFL championship game. The club posted a single win last season and wasn’t expected to do much despite an overhauled roster and new head coach. And things didn’t look good through much of the season with the Maulers having only two wins through the first eight weeks of the campaign. I guess that’s actually good news since they doubled their win total. Even better news was that the Maulers resided in a crappy division with all four teams finishing at least two games below .500.
Two teams had to claim playoff spots in the USFL North and Pittsburgh stepped up with its first winning streak in two years. The Maulers posted a pair of upsets in the final two weeks thanks to a defense that allowed a combined 13 points. Getting 1-point on the
The path to back-to-back USFL championships looks easy for the Birmingham Stallions. Nothing comes easy, though, in the game of football. The best team in the league once again, the Stallions rolled to the title contest with a thorough 47-22 beating of New Orleans in the USFL South championship game. The league’s highest scoring team during the regular season, the Stallions put up a season-high point total in their rout of the Breakers behind four touchdowns passes from MVP candidate Alex McGough.
The teams met in Week 4 with Birmingham emerging victorious, 24-20, in a game that was much closer than oddsmakers anticipated. The Stallions were an 8-point favorite on the BetRivers sportsbook.

USFL betting sites have Birmingham as a solid favorite to repeat as champions; and why not since they’ve been the dominant team all year. Pittsburgh comes in on a three-game winning streak, which is enormous for them since they hadn’t compiled consecutive wins until this streak. That, however, pales in comparison to Birmingham’s current six-game run where they’ve outscored opponents by an average of nearly 13 points while going 5-1 as a
We’ve seen the Maulers pick up the pace offensively to go on a nice little run. They matched a season-high point total in last week’s win and are averaging more than 25 points during their three-game streak. Mix in some offense with a defense that allowed the fewest yards and points per game and you have an upset in the making. The Maulers led the league with 20 takeaways and befuddled McGough in the first meeting. Pittsburgh will have to score and while that hasn’t been an issue lately, the totality of the season still leaves them among the worst in that category. They managed fewer than 300 yards last week using a +3 turnover margin to thwart Michigan. Pittsburgh doesn’t have the offense putting more stress on the defense. And McGough’s ability to extend plays and a balanced Birmingham attack will be enough for the Stallions. However, taking the points looks like a smart
