MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Friday, June 9
June 8, 2023NFC East Odds – It’s More Wide Open Than You Think!
June 9, 2023I think it’s safe to say the South is the dominant division in the USFL this season. Division members swept their counterparts from the North last week and went 13-3 in interconference matchups this season. It’s all divisional play to close out the final two weeks of the regular season with plenty still to be decided. All eight teams are still alive for a playoff berth with critical contests taking place this weekend. The Memphis Showboats remain the hottest team in the league beating New Jersey, 25-16, last week for the fifth straight. They’re also a hot USFL betting pick with five consecutive payouts. The Week 9 matchup with New Orleans hit the board as a pick ‘em at BetRivers sportsbook.
The Birmingham Stallions have a one-game lead over the rest of the South and will look to maintain their standing with a matchup against the Houston Gamblers on Sunday. One of Birmingham’s two losses on the season was administered by Houston, 27-20, in Week 5. The Stallions were a 4.5-point favorite in that matchup and they are laying 3.5-points on the USFL betting line in the rematch. The Pittsburgh Maulers have just two wins but they are still mathematically alive. They face a must-win against Michigan, who also must win to keep postseason aspirations alive, on Saturday to open the betting week.
USFL Week 9 Schedule
Michigan Panthers (3-5) at Pittsburgh Maulers (2-6)
Date and Time: Saturday, June 10, 12 p.m. ET
Opening Odds: Michigan -1, O/U 41
Panthers at Maulers TV Coverage: FOX
At this point in the season we’re seeing teams hook up for the second time. The Panthers would like to erase the memory of their first meeting with Pittsburgh, a dreadful 23-7 loss in Week 5. That was right in the middle of a four-game losing streak when the offense went MIA. Pittsburgh is solid with the league’s best total defense allowing 260.5 yards and Michigan boosted those numbers by amassing just 152 yards while turning the ball over four times. The Panthers have been better scoring at least 20 points in their last two games and going 3-0 when scoring more than 20 points. I don’t see a problem containing the woeful Pittsburgh attack and a few plays from former San Jose State Spartan Josh Love at QB will be the difference.
USFL Prediction: Michigan -1 / UNDER 41
New Orleans Breakers (5-3) at Memphis Showboats (5-3)
Date and Time: Saturday, June 10, 3 p.m. ET
Opening Odds: PK, O/U 42.5
Breakers at Showboats TV Coverage: NBC
Every game this week has playoff implications but this might be the most important one. The teams are tied for second in the South, one game behind Birmingham, and the loser takes a huge gut punch to its playoff hopes. Memphis has been rolling for over a month with five straight wins and covers as a USFL pick against the spread. The defense allowed an average of just 11.2 points in that span with the UNDER 4-1 as a USFL betting pick. They’ve been aided by the best turnover margin at plus-5 and New Orleans has a tendency to cough up the pigskin. The Boats held New Orleans to a season-low point total in their 17-10 Week 5 victory and it doesn’t look like they’re letting up.
USFL Prediction: Memphis PK / UNDER 42.5
Birmingham Stallions (6-2) at Houston Gamblers (5-3)
Date and Time: Sunday, June 11, 2 p.m. ET
Opening Odds: Birmingham -3.5, O/U 46
Stallions at Gamblers TV Coverage: NBC
This matchup is just as big as the other South contest with the teams so close in the standings. The top two scoring teams in the league face an average defense on the other side, so the team that executes with the football will have the edge. Right now that looks like the Stallions who rode an impressive performance from Alex McGough last week to win their third straight, 27-24 over Philly. McGough was 24 of 35 for 333 yards and three TDs against the team with best record in the North. And Birmingham is looking for payback for its Week 5 loss to the Gamblers. The Stallions are the biggest USFL favorite this week laying 3.5-points, which is their second-smallest spread this season.
USFL Prediction: Birmingham -3.5 / OVER 46
Philadelphia Stars (4-4) at New Jersey Generals (2-6)
Date and Time: Sunday, June 11, 7 p.m. ET
Opening Odds: Philadelphia -2, O/U 44
Stars at Generals TV Coverage: FOX
Instability at QB has proven costly for the Generals this season. Unable to find a productive starter the club has used three different players at the position. So it’s not a huge surprise that they’ve sunk to the bottom of the standings after winning the division last season. The lack of offense has taken a toll on the defense with the group surrendering 25 points in each of the last two defeats and an average of 22 during a five-game slide. They haven’t had a 200-yard passer this season and their minus-8 turnover differential is last in the league. I dislike Jersey more than Philadelphia in this contest.
USFL Prediction: Philadelphia -2 / UNDER 44
