March 19, 2024Xander Schauffele will look to put last week’s disappointment behind him as the PGA Tour heads to the final stop in the Florida Swing, the Valspar Championship. Schauffele is the highest ranked player in the field at No. 5 in the world and he is listed as the golf betting favorite with odds of +700 at Caesars. Sam Burns is ranked No. 19 in the latest World Golf Rankings and he is second in the betting odds at +800. The other three players listed with odds of less than 20-1 are Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas at +1400 and Brian Harman at +1800. Let’s look at Valspar Championship odds and picks.

Favorite
Xander Schauffele +700
I guess we have to put Scheffler in his own category now when he is listed as the betting favorite. He won for the second straight week as the favorite, taking home THE PLAYERS Championship for the second straight year. Everyone else loses as the favorite, but with Scheffler you at least have a chance to cash. Schauffele is this week’s betting favorite so that means I am not taking him. His odds of +700 are simply too low for a player that doesn’t win that often. Maybe he can put last week behind him quickly, but regardless, I am not taking him as the favorite.
Golf Picks
Cameron Young +2000
You can make a case for Young contending this week on the tough Copperhead Course. He has played well on tough courses in the past and although this is his first try here, first timers on this course have held their own in the past. Some players who have won their first PGA events in this tourney include Sam Burns, Adam Hadwin and last year’s winner Taylor Moore. I think Young will be in the mix this week.
Nick Taylor +2500
I was wrong last week about Taylor, as he proved he can compete against the best in the world and not be out of place. He is now up to 24th in the World Rankings and he already has two PGA Tour wins. He is playing really well of late and two of his three career wins came on Bermudagrass greens.
Victor Perez +9000
This is the rookie season for Perez on the PGA Tour but he has plenty of experience around the world and he actually played in this event a year ago. He played well in Puerto Rico with a third-place finish and he oftentimes plays well in stretches. I think he is a live longshot this week.
Kevin Yu +10000
Why not Yu getting his first PGA Tour win this week? He has played well this season with a 3rd at The American Express, a 6th at the Farmers and a 9th at the Cognizant. He is definitely inconsistent with some missed cuts thrown in, but in a win bet it is all or nothing anyway.
Mackenzie Hughes +12500
It could be windy this week with players who do well in scrambling having a chance to contend. He played well at TPC Sawgrass last week with a 26th place effort and his scoring on the weekend was really good. He is definitely worth a flyer this week at big odds.
