Since this is the first weekend of the NFL season and we learned absolutely nothing from the exhibition games, I’m going to take a simple approach to my parlay with a basic three-wager card. You can take a game or two from my list and apply them to your own wager or ignore them altogether and do your own handicapping on the NFL betting lines.

The New Orleans Saints made one of the biggest offseason acquisitions getting Derek Carr to stabilize an offense that’s been in flux since the retirement of Drew Brees. The Saints ranked 16th in passing and 19th in total offense last season needing a jolt to get back to the postseason. Carr’s tenure with the Raiders came to an unceremonious end last year and he’s still relatively young, while being a massive upgrade over Andy Dalton. Carr has weapons in the passing game with Michael Thomas healthy and Jimmy Graham ready to give it another go.

The Saints will have to stop Derrick Henry, who’s averaged over 1,400 yards a season since becoming a starter in 2018. Tennessee’s passing game floundered last year finishing 30^th in the NFL prompting the acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins. However, the offensive line is completely new with several players out of position giving the Saints D an edge. Three points is a tricky line, but the Saints always seem to play better at home and they are my NFL pick against the spread.

Speaking of Carr’s former team, they went and got Jimmy Garoppolo to take over after winning over 70 percent of his starts with the 49ers. Las Vegas also has last year’s rushing leader Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams, who led the NFL with 14 TD receptions. The biggest question facing Denver is Russell Wilson. One of the worst QBs in the league last season, Wilson is looking for a fresh start under new coach Sean Payton.

But there’s already been some issues with the two, mainly Payton wanting his QB to focus more on football rather than his off-field interests. That’s not saying the relationship won’t work, but Wilson isn’t getting any younger and last year could’ve been the start of his decline. The Raiders have won six straight in the series and eight of the last nine while going 8-1 against the NFL betting line.

The total for the Arizona Cardinals at Washington Commanders game is the lowest on the Week 1 NFL betting board, and for good reason. Both teams stunk last year and the Cards took a deep dive when Kyler Murray was injured. With Murray still rehabbing the Cards will go with either Joshua Dobbs or Clayton Tune with Gannon keeping mum on the subject because he said it gives him a competitive advantage. He’s gonna need it because Arizona might be the worst team in football. More than half the roster is new and presumed starter Dobbs just joined the team a week ago.

All signs point to this game going under the total, but Washington made a change at QB also with Sam Howell winning the job. Howell had a stellar collegiate career at North Carolina and I expect the team to open things up after averaging fewer than 20 points per game last season.
