September 6, 2024CFB Odds – Week 2 College Football Parlay Picks Recap
The Week 2 college football parlay picks were a good example of how overreacting can bite bettors in the backside. An impressive victory by the Auburn Tigers in Week 1 had us thinking they’re better than they actually are. And Cal’s lackluster performance against an FCS foe prompted us to back Auburn as a 13-point favorite. Not only did Auburn fail to cover the NCAA football betting line they lost the game outright, 21-14. And that was just the beginning of a forgettable day with our college football picks.
I like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who are a different team now that they have a quarterback. And we bought the hype Deion was selling about his kid. Sheduer Sanders has the tools but he was overmatched by the Huskers defense, which sacked him five times, forced a pair of turnovers and allowed just 260 total yards. After building a 28-0 halftime lead Nebraska was content to play keep away in the second half and failed to score. That prevented the teams from reaching the football odds closing total of 55 points handing us another parlay card loss.

If you lose the first bet on your college football parlay it doesn’t really matter what happens in the others since all bets must win to earn a payout. If you’re gonna lose you might as well do it in grand style and that’s exactly what happened. None of our Week 2 picks were even close to winning after Oklahoma squeaked past Houston, 16-12, as a NCAAF betting odds favorite of 27.5 points.
Getting walloped by UNLV, 27-7, in their opener had us fading the Cougars in their matchup with OU. So wouldn’t you know Willie Fritz’s team did a complete 180 and came close to pulling off the upset. Maybe UNLV is a lot better than we realize or the Sooners aren’t as good as their top 15 ranking suggests. Either way Houston made adjustments and played a much better football game that had us crying with the outcome.

There were few surprises in the opening week of the 2024 college football season with the top teams all escaping with a victory. Bettors also now have a baseline to gauge teams, though I’m not sure we learned a lot from teams like Ohio State, Texas and Alabama, who won their opening games against overmatched opponents by a combined score of 167-6. Odds for Week 2 surfaced at BetMGM with No. 1 ranked Georgia a massive 53.5-point college football betting line favorite over FCS Tennessee Tech. The Dawgs opened the season with a convincing win over No. 14 Clemson with the defense not allowing a touchdown.
While the Georgia game doesn’t have much appeal, there is an intriguing matchup between top 10 squads that highlights the slate. The Texas Longhorns, a favorite to win the national championship this season, head to the Big House to face the defending champion Michigan Wolverines. It’s rare to see UM as a home dog but here they are catching 7.5-points for this showdown. Let’s scan over the rest of the NCAAF lines and odds to see what winners are available on the Week 2 college football parlay.

Week 2 College Football Parlay Picks
Auburn -13 vs. Cal
Colorado / Nebraska OVER 58.5
Oklahoma -29 vs. Houston
Like a lot of pundits I overestimated Clemson and took a big L on my three-team college football parlay last week. The days of the Tigers being a national championship threat and a highly ranked team could be at an end. I overvalued them after a strong finish to the 2023 season but they proved no match for the top-ranked Dawgs, losing 34-3 in the opener. That was the only blemish on my ticket since movement on the NCAAF odds got me a win on the OVER in Iowa’s game with Illinois State. The total closed below 40 and the Hawkeyes did all the work in a 40-0 win. I was initially hesitant to back Nebraska laying 27.5 points, but they also came through beating UTEP 40-7 to cover the college football point spread.
I’m sticking with the Huskers in their Week 2 matchup with Colorado feeling they’ve made enough progress on offense to go OVER the total of 58.5. I actually thought the number was low given the talent on the field. Prized recruit Dylan Raiola was brilliant in his collegiate debut going 19 of 27 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. He has playmakers on the outside and the Huskers have the ability to score points against a suspect Buffs’ defense. Shedeur Sanders passed for 445 yards and four scores in Colorado’s season opening win over North Dakota State and can light it up against the best of them.
Auburn needed to upgrade its group of receivers to improve a passing game that was not good last season. They proved successful in their Week 1 romp over Alabama AM. It was a good starting point against an FCS foe giving the newcomers a chance to gel with QB Payton Thorne. In his 13 completions Thorne amassed 322 yards and four TDs and the Tigers had 628 total yards. They likely won’t be as dominant against Cal in Week 2, but Auburn has a newfound ability to stretch the field.
The Golden Bears struggled in their opener against an FCS opponent rallying in the second half for a 31-13 verdict over UC Davis, though they failed to cover the 20.5-point football line. The Bears were outgained and if not for three takeaways the score would’ve likely been closer. That outing didn’t give me confidence they can stay within 13 points in a road matchup against a SEC opponent.
The Houston Cougars might be the worst team in a Power conference this season after getting run over by UNLV, 27-7, in their season opener. The Cougs were manhandled on both side of the ball allowing six sacks and 10 TFLs. They avoided a shutout by scoring in the final minute of the fourth quarter. The Cougs probably aren’t as bad as they looked in Week 1 but trying to fix the kinks against Oklahoma isn’t going to help. The Sooners routed Temple 51-3 last week with their defense forcing six turnovers and holding the Owls to fewer than 200 total yards. They didn’t rack up a lot of yards but OU was efficient getting four scoring passes from Jackson Arnold. And the Sooners shouldn’t have a hard time finding the end zone on Saturday.
