Week 5 NFL Teaser Best Bets
October 6, 2023Sunday Night Football Same Game Parlay: Cowboys vs. 49ers
October 6, 2023Two NFL parlay winners in three weeks have me on a nice heater heading into Week 5 of the NFL season where I’ll attempt to keep the good times rolling. After hitting a three-team winner in Week 2 at BetRivers sportsbook the betting Gods got their revenge handing me an ohfer in Week 3. But winning on the NFL betting line with a three-team parlay is a move I’ll always make. When you bet on NFL games keep in mind that sportsbooks are around for a reason. They operate on cash donated by bettors meaning you don’t always win. But it’s fun when it happens.
My two games in the early Sunday window cashed with the Buccaneers beating New Orleans outright 26-9. I had the Bucs -3.5. The second pick was OVER the total of 46.5 in the Bears/Broncos game. Even though the offenses sputtered the clubs were bad enough defensively to give me confidence the score would go OVER. And it did thanks to Denver completing the comeback with a 17-point fourth quarter. Anxiously awaiting the outcome of the late game I needed the Chargers to cover the 5.5-point spread in their contest with Las Vegas. The Bolts built a 17-point halftime lead and held on for the 24-17 triumph making me a happy guy.

Spotting a team 12.5 points is a lot in the NFL, and I usually avoid those games or side with the points. However, after watching the New York Giants last week and in parts of other games during the season, I’m not convinced they can stay within the spread, even playing at home. They had a home game last week and were scorched by the Seahawks, who registered 11 sacks in the game. The Giants have the worst scoring differential at -76 and it could be worse if not for the second half at Arizona that saw them score 31 points for their only win.
I think we see a different Miami Dolphins squad than the one that lost 48-20 to Buffalo last week. The offense that obliterated Denver and the Chargers earlier in the year has a chance to resurface against a Giants squad that’s lacking playmakers on that side of the football. It’s a steep spread, but I’m betting on the Fins getting it done.
I’ll admit I’m a bit surprised by the Arizona Cardinals. They have only one win but the outcome in the Washington and Giants could have easily been different. And they played the Niners tight for more than a half last week before caving in. And that win was an upset of Dallas as a 14-point dog. The calf injury sustained by Joe Burrow appears to be more series than anyone could’ve expected.
What most expected would be an explosive offense has been far from it. And the group could be in for more heartache with Tee Higgins likely out due to a rib injury. Burrow’s mobility has been hampered and in two of his starts the Bengals were held without a TD. I almost feel bad backing the Cardinals since Cincy is the one needing a win to keep its playoff hopes afloat while the Cards are in full rebuild. Joshua Dobbs has been good in place of rehabbing Kyler Murray and the Cards have been able to move the football making them my NFL betting pick.
Playing three of their first four games on the road left the Rams at 2-2 as they return home to face the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles. With a lot of unknowns the Rams have found balance on the roster and the offense could get stronger with the possible return of Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp. In a weird note, LA’s Matthew Stafford is 4-1 all-time against the Eagles with 10 TD passes and only on one interception. Backing the Rams and four points means they’ll have to slow down Philly’s offense, which has gotten each week under Jalen Hurts.
The defense that was such a huge part of the last year’s Super Bowl club has had some weaknesses. The secondary has been riddled for the third most TD passes giving Stafford some wiggle room to keep his club within the spread.
