May 8, 2024American League MVP Award Odds to Target at Caesars Sportsbook
May 9, 2024Rory McIlroy is listed as the favorite in this week’s Wells Fargo Championship. It is the last event before next week’s PGA Championship and because it is a Signature Event with a $20 million dollar prize purse, all of the top PGA players are in the field except World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler whose wife is expecting. Favorites other than Scheffler have been a losing proposition in golf betting this season, but McIlroy has won this event three times in the past. McIlroy is listed at odds of +650 at Caesars. I am coming off a 3-2 week with the matchups at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson. Let’s look at Wells Fargo Championship matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Wyndham Clark
Tournament Notes: The Wells Fargo Championship is one of five Signature events without a cut so all 69 players in the field will make the weekend. Quail Hollow is a par 71 that is long and challenging at 7,558 yards. The new greens are TifEagle Bermuda.

Golf Matchup Picks
Wyndham Clark -115 vs. Patrick Cantlay
Is there any doubt that right now Clark is simply a better player than Cantlay? Clark is the defending champion of this event and he has won twice more since then including the U.S. Open. I know Cantlay tied for 3rd at the RBC Heritage, but I still think something is off with his game this year. I’ll take Clark in this matchup.
Stephan Jaeger -130 vs. Denny McCarthy
Jaeger has been playing well with a tie for 18th at the RBC Heritage and last week he tied for 20th at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. He tied for 27th in this event a year ago. We know the course is long and until last year, McCarthy had struggled in this event, missing the cut three straight years before last year. I think last year’s tie for 8th was an outlier. I’ll take Jaeger in this betting matchup.
Cameron Young -110 vs. Si Woo Kim
I said in the picks article that I like the chances of Young this week. I know that Kim has played better this year, but I still don’t think he is a player you take on long courses. I think Young has the better overall game and that he will be in contention this week. I’ll take him in this PGA betting matchup.
Max Homa -115 vs. Justin Thomas
I know that Thomas won on this course in the 2017 PGA Championship but I think he is struggling to figure out his overall game. He changed caddies and he still looks to be searching. Homa tied for 8th in this event a year ago and he has three top 20 finishes in Signature Events this year. I’ll take Homa in this golf betting matchup.
Byeong Hun An -120 vs. Jordan Spieth
I think you can make a case that Spieth is a go-against player right now. He just looks like a train wreck with his ball going all over the place. An has actually been the better player this season and we get him at a short price in this golf matchup.Check out the latest Wells Fargo Championship matchup odds at Caesars.
