Super Bowl LIX Wide Receiver Prop Picks – Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs
February 5, 2025Back in the field for the first time since being shelved by a minor hand injury, Scottie Scheffler didn’t miss a beat with a top 10 finish last week in his season debut. With that one out of the way the world’s No. 1 player is back in a familiar spot sitting atop the odds board at Caesars for this week’s WM Phoenix Open. Scheffler’s outstanding play overall coupled with his success at TPC Scottsdale has him as a big favorite in the outright market. Scheffler sandwiched a T3 last year and a T7 around back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. One of the more popular events on the PGA Tour players will have to contend with a raucous crowd, especially around the par 3 16th hole when a gallery of around 20,000 rabid fans cheer and heckle. That didn’t faze Nick Taylor last year when he won in a playoff. Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama are two-time winners looking to join a select group who’ve won this tournament three times.
Tournament Notes: Once again the final round of this event falls on Super Bowl Sunday as a lead in to the big game. The events could overlap if we have a playoff and extra holes were needed in six of the last nine tournaments. Five former winners are scheduled to peg it up with Scheffler, Matsuyama and Taylor joined by Rickie Fowler and Gary Woodland.

WM Phoenix Open Matchup Picks
Sahith Theegala -105 vs. Byeong Hun An
It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Theegala who’s finished outside the top 30 in his first four starts. I’m not about to write him off especially since he’s at a venue that’s yielded positive results for him in the past. He was fifth last year and one shot off the pace in 2022 for a share of third. He seems to thrive in this environment and it’s just what he needs to kickstart his game.
Sungjae Im -105 vs. Hideki Matsuyama
I’m going against a two-time winner of this event and backing Im after a stellar start to the season. He’s the only player with multiple top 5 finishes this season getting a solo third at The Sentry and T4 at the FIO continuing a strong close to 2024 that saw him finish inside the top 15 in eight of his final 10 starts. Im has also recorded two top 10s in this event.
Nick Taylor -110 vs. Si Woo Kim
Converging trends make Taylor a smart pick in this matchup. He has a win at the Sony Open and a T12 at the American Express already this season to go along with last year’s victory here that was preceded by a runner-up finish to Scheffler in 2023.
Adam Hadwin -115 vs. Alex Smalley
Sometimes you have to play a hunch and I have a good feeling about Hadwin. The results over the last several months are deceiving with no finish inside the top 20. However, he hasn’t played that poorly and needs just a confident boost to get him back on track. He had a stretch of eight straight made cuts end last year and he has racked up a trio of top 20s at TPC Scottsdale over his career with a best of T10 two years ago.
Matt Fitzpatrick +110 vs. Robert MacIntyre
Another player with a chance to get healthy at a venue that’s been good to him in the past is Fitzpatrick. He cooled off following a hot start to last season that saw him record seven top 25s in his first 11 starts, including a T15 here. He also has a T10 in this tournament from 2022 and a T29 in 2023. His driving accuracy has been on point this season and cleaning up other parts of his game will allow Fitz to have better results.
