Favorite
Xander Schauffele +700
Stop the presses, a golf betting favorite won last week, as Tom Kim cashed in Vegas. I said last week that although I wasn’t taking Kim as the favorite, I wouldn’t argue with anyone who did, as Kim was definitely a solid choice to win last week. It is Schauffele in the role of favorite this week and the field is better than it was a week ago. Schauffele has the talent to win any times he tees it up, but if you look at the numbers, he has played 161 events and has 7 wins. I can’t take Schauffele as the favorite and at odds this low.
Value Picks
Sungjae Im +1400
You have to like the way some of the Asian golfers are playing right now S.H. Kim nearly won the Fortinet, Si Woo Kim won gold at the Asia games and Im won the silver. Im finished in a tie for 2nd at the Genesis. He has played well in this event with a 3rd place finish in 2019 and he was 29th last year. He also has the advantage of having been in Asia the past three weeks. I think he has a good chance to win this week and we get 14-1.
Hideki Matsuyama +1600
I should say up front with this pick of Matsuyama that you tread at your own risk, as I have not had much luck in picking Hideki. That being said, I can’t ignore him on this course in front of his fans. He has the right type of game to excel on this course and I expect him to be in the mix.
Min Woo Lee +1800
Another player who does well on courses that demand accuracy is Lee. We don’t see Lee on a regular basis, but his game is very solid and I expect he will be on more leaderboards this season. He might just start things off with a win this week.
Cam Davis +2200
You have to like the way Davis is playing right now and he usually does well on short courses like this one. He has had eight top 10 finishes since March and he is now in the Top 50 in the latest World Golf rankings. He should contend this week and we get 22-1 in golf betting odds.
Adam Schenk +4000
Last week Schenk missed the cut in Vegas, but he has not played since August so he was a bit rusty. He has been playing better than he ever has on the PGA Tour and this is a good spot for him to get back into gear, as he does well on short courses that demand accuracy. He has played well in this event in the past with a number of top 30 finishes.
