October 6, 2022AFC North Title Odds as of Week 5
October 6, 2022Linemakers at BetRivers Sportsbook look to believe the AFC East title race is all but a foregone conclusion with the Buffalo Bills now installed the chalkiest favorite of any team to win a division heading into Week 5. With their only competition on paper now without Tua Tagovailoa for an undetermined amount of time, it makes sense. Let’s dig into the current futures odds offerings and see if there’s anything worthy of investing in right now.

The Buffalo Bills odds of winning the AFC East got noticeably shorter this week. Last we reported, I said there’d be an opportunity to buy the Bills at a reduced price dependent upon what went down in South Beach. Though Buffalo ultimately dropped a hard fought affair, their odds of winning the division only moved from -350 from -335. Had Josh Allen and Co. not stormed back in the second half to defeat the Baltimore Ravens last week and dropped two in a row, there would’ve been a buying opportunity. It didn’t come to pass.
Now, the team returns home to oppose a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start in a game the Bills are installed gargantuan 14-point favorites to win. If you still have an inkling backing Buffalo to win this division, hold off to see what transpires when it runs up against Kansas City and Green Bay over the next three weeks.
If a loss or two are incurred, it might prove to be the last time we’d be able to buy the Bills at a discounted price.

In dropping a tough 27-15 decision to the Cincinnati Bengals in a game Tua Tagovailoa got knocked out of commission, the Miami Dolphins one game lead over the Bills is now a thing of the past. Currently the division leader due to owning the tiebreaker, Mike McDaniel’s squad is about to face some adversity with Teddy Bridgewater under center.
That being said, the injury bug couldn’t have chosen a more perfect time to screw things up with five of the next six opponents owning losing records. First up is an interesting visit to New York where a feisty bunch of Jets will await. After that, it’s Minnesota but the team will then head into the Week 11 bye opposing Pittsburgh, @Detroit, @Chicago, and Cleveland.
The current 4-1 offering just might be the longest it’ll be since first hitting the board at +475!

It’s been a rough go of it for the New England Patriots through the first month of the NFL betting season. That being said, I could see things getting a whole heck of a lot better for Bill Belichick’s squad with the schedule set to lighten up dramatically over the next five weeks.
So far, the Pats have taken on three teams likely destined for the playoffs. Its next five opponents include Detroit, @Cleveland, Chicago, @Jets, and Indianapolis. Can you confidently predict any of those teams punching a ticket to the second season right now?
I don’t think any investment – even at 50-1 – should be made to win this division. However, I’m super intrigued by New England’s readjusted season wins total over at BetRivers which currently clocks in at 7.5 with +120 juice attached to the over. We’d be cooking with gas if “The Hoodie” sweeps his way into the Week 10 bye!

So what are we to take away from the New York Jets comeback win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh? While I was bullish on Robert Saleh’s squad at the outset of the season and backed that premise up by hitting the over of their 6-game season wins total, I never once believed this team would put itself into any position to win the division. Still, I’m extremely excited to see this young team evolve into one that could compete for numerous AFC East titles in the coming years. Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and Elijah Moore are going to be popular fantasy/prop targets for years to come. If Zach Wilson proves he’s the guy, look out!
Instead of drinking the Gang Green Kool-Aid and doing something stupid, let’s just continue to watch this team from afar and hope the growth needed to become the best of the best comes to fruition.
