Mets vs. Yankees Picks
August 22, 2022The Delay Factor of In-Game Betting and Streaming
August 22, 2022On Saturday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Northwestern Wildcats open the 2022 college football season in a highly anticipated matchup from Ireland. While some fans and many gamblers love the idea, the teams, coaches, and many other fans do not. First, Nebraska fans are known for traveling as well or better than any other fan base in college football. But Ireland ain’t cheap, especially with raging inflation and an overall poor economic climate. Second, head coaches Scott Frost of Nebraska and Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern can’t be thrilled with a Big Ten Conference matchup in the lid-lifter. Especially a Big Ten West Division matchup!

Betting on College Football – Odds Analysis
Last year at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Cornhuskers romped and stomped to a 56-7 win over the Wildcats. Gamblers have not forgotten that, as the line shows.
The betting public still considers the Huskers something of blue blood. Although Nebraska is no longer a power program, many fans and gamblers believe that they are a sleeping giant.
On the other hand, Northwestern has no such cache. The Wildcats are known for being an academically oriented program with smart, tough, and usually outclassed athletes. Northwestern rarely has an offense that can generate much production, even in its best years. That makes them a difficult sell to the gambling public.
NCAA Football Odds – Now or Never for Frost at Nebraska
Scott Frost was hailed as the fair-haired knight riding in on the white horse to save the day. Frost is a Nebraska native and was the Huskers’ last national championship team quarterback. He arrived fresh off an undefeated season at UCF and was touted as the ultimate home run hire, perfect fit, and pick of the coaching litter. But Frost has not yet produced a winning season or bowl game.
Frost has remade his coaching staff for what is his last stand campaign. Mark Whipple takes over for Frost as the offensive coordinator. Whipple called the shots for Pitt last year when they won the ACC championship. Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett was a Heisman Trophy finalist and the first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers last spring. Thus, Whipple brings serious gravitas.
College Football Betting – Thompson Arrives From Texas
For four frustrating years, Adrian Martinez was the Nebraska starting quarterback. Martinez would often flash signs of brilliance only to turn the ball over or make head-scratching mistakes. Nebraska began 2019 as the preseason’s hot pick, and Martinez was on the board as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Instead, the team blew a huge lead at Colorado, never recovered, and imploded. Last year Nebraska was known for its tough play but terrible special teams and numerous close call losses.
Martinez is gone to Kansas State for his fifth and extra COVID season. In his place is Texas Longhorns transfer Casey Thompson. Thompson won a three-man competition at summer camp and has earned rave reviews. Whipple is a quarterback whisperer, setting up the potential for big things in 2022.
NCAAF Betting Odds – Nebraska vs. Northwestern Free Pick
For Nebraska, Casey Thompson was a good get from Texas. The receiving corps got a ton of help from Trey Palmer from LSU, Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda from New Mexico State, and Marcus Washington from Texas. The defense filled in a few spots and helped boost up the depth.
The biggest NCAA Vegas Odds change is with their offense. Getting offensive coordinator Mark Whipple over from Pitt is a major coup. The Huskers should have a far more dangerous passing game. In Saturday’s matchup, NU will go up against a Northwestern secondary that doesn’t return anyone who came up with an interception in 2021.
Nebraska owns more talent and scoring ability in this game. Northwestern’s plodding attack won’t be able to keep up.
